Health and Safety

Training

We produce and monitor a training matrix to ensure that all staff receive the requisite level of training to meet their statutory obligations and carry out their duties safely.

We also provide additional training to staff when new working practices and legislation are introduced. We set our own internal standards of competency for our workforce and we will ensure that these are met.

We have an ongoing commitment to full NVQ-CSCS accreditation for our workforce. We have a highly competent formwork and concreting workforce, with operatives having undergone extensive training and have been accredited with the Working At Height Licence, an industry-recognised Certificate of Competence.

All of our Contracts and Project Managers are accredited with the CITB SMSTS qualification. We also ensure that all Foremen attend regular Health and Safety Awareness training and all plant operators attend CITB-CPCS accredited plant training.

Monitoring

We operate a robust monitoring system to gauge the effectiveness of our Health and Safety Management Procedures. We recognise that, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, all employees have a duty of care to both themselves and to others and that the monitoring of this duty is carried out by all levels of supervisory and management personnel, using the following framework:

  • Daily and weekly site inspections by the on-site Management Teams
  • Fortnightly inspections by the Health and Safety Team
  • Fortnightly inspections by the visiting Contract Managers
  • Quarterly safety tours by the Directors

The effectiveness of our process has enabled us to achieve an average accident rate 40% below the national average, and we will continue to strive to reduce the amount of lost-time accidents.

We work closely with the Health and Safety Executive and are members of the following:
